They call it Happy Hour for reason. During this magical time of day, restaurants and bars offer discounted drinks and appetizers to help you unwind after a long day and put a smile on your face. While not comprehensive (we do care about our livers, after all), below are some of the Happy Hours we’ve sampled in the region, why we like them, and why we think you may too.
Bar Louie has two locations in Pittsburgh: the North Shore and the Waterfront. Happy Hour runs from 5-7 p.m. Monday-Friday. Drafts are $3.50, Wines $4.50, and Signature Martinis are $5.50. Select appetizers and scrumptious flatbreads are half price as well.
Bravo Cucina Italiano
Bravo has five locations in the Pittsburgh area, so you are never too far from great Italian food. Happy Hour is held in Bravo’s bar area on weekdays from 3:30-6:30 p.m. On Wednesdays you can sample $5 Martinis and on Thursdays it’s $5 wine pours. The Bar Bites menu features nearly 10 selections also at the reasonable price of $5.
If you enjoy Happy Hour Italian style, then DeNunzio’s will have you singing “That’s Amore.” There are three DeNunzio’s in the area: Jeannette, Latrobe, and Monroeville. Happy Hour in the Latrobe location is Sunday through Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and offers six Italian appetizers and half-off a glass of house wine, $2 Miller and Yuengling drafts, and $4 craft beers. Happy Hour at the Jeannette and Monroeville locations are Monday through Friday, 4-6 p.m. and it also features a choice of six Italian appetizers. A glass of house wine and all draft beers are half off.
Firebirds Wood Fired Grill
Located at the crossroads of Route 228 and I79 in Cranberry Township, Firebirds’ Happy Hour is held Monday-Friday from 4-6:30 p.m. in the FIREBAR and on their patio and features Bar Bites and drink specials such as seasonal craft cocktails for $7 and $2 off draft beers.
When you’ve been in business for four decades, you know you’re doing something right. Located in Franklin Park, the Franklin Inn has been serving delicious Mexican food and drinks since 1978. Happy Hour at the Franklin Inn is held Monday-Friday from 4-6 p.m. and features half-priced appetizers and $4 off their full Margarita or $2 off a half Mason jar. They also have discounted draft beers.
Currently, there are nine Mad Mex Restaurants in the Pittsburgh region, and their Happy Hora is held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on weekdays and features half off drafts and house Margaritas. We especially love Mad Mex’s half-priced wings.
McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood & Steaks
For an upscale restaurant, McCormick & Schmick’s offers high-quality eats in their bar area and specialty drinks and cocktails during their Happy Hour from 5-7 p.m. for fantastic prices. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays there are daily specials. Tuesdays it’s Tito’s & Tacos, Fish Tacos at $2 each and Tito’s Mexitini’s for $5. On Wednesdays, its Shrimp & Schuck where oysters and shrimp are $1 each. On Thursdays Oysters Rockefeller is $2.50 each.
Olive or Twist
You’ve got to love a restaurant in the theater district whose name hearkens to the Dicken’s literary classic. You’ve also got to love a Happy Hour that features $5 glasses of wine, $2 off specialty martinis, and $1 off draft beer as wells as half-priced Buffalo chicken spread or nachos. Happy Hour is 4-6 p.m. on Monday and 4-7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
The Walnut Grill has a location at all four points of the compass: Wexford, Fox Chapel, Bridgeville, and Robinson. No matter which direction you head, you can enjoy their Happy Hour in the bar every day from 5-7 p.m., where draft beer, wine, and Pinnacle vodka drinks are $3. A half-dozen of appetizers are featured, and their Loaded Tater Tots are reason enough to head to a Walnut Grill.
